Emirati Expressions

Yesterday our teacher took us to Emirates Palace to see UAE exhibition” Emirati Expressions “and The Saadiyat Island project. In this eassy I am going to write about what we saw in this two exhibitions and what I think about the painting and the building that will be build in Saadiyat Island.

Firstly I will talk about the Emirati Expressions. There were very interesting painting in the exhibition most of them were frustration painting or picture and there were a mean full installation. One of my favorite is a picture of three men with ears, eyes and mouth covered by outside pairs of hands. The artists want to say that these days human beings not allowed to talk or express their opinion these days. However l like the idea ,but I don’t like the painting because when I was child my father took me to the hospital to the dentist to take one of my teeth and I saw the same painting on the wall of the dentist room so I hate that painting.

However after we saw all these strange paintings our teacher took us to the Saadiyat Island project. We saw the three building .One of the model look like a dead fish as my friend said it seemed like a dead fish, but I think otherwise it seem like a modern building which was made by a Muslim women I don’t know her nationality maybe an Iranian. The second design was the famous Louver which maybe they will bring the Monlisa. The third design was very strange and I think is the most interesting design that I saw. From the outside of the Third design you can see square, rectangle and triangle, but from inside it seem like a normal building.

Some people think that the government spends a lot of money in these projects and some people think not .I think the Saadiyat Island project is good for the UAE and not for the people who is live in it. It is good for the UAE that MAYBE It will make it the first destine for tourism. Because at that time is UAE will have everything in the world. It has a story to tell the people how they have became like this, it have museums and have all the entertament of the world. Although it is a good thing for the country, but it is not good things for the local. You may I asked why and I will tell there are more important things than building .Take education for example. Education in UAE is not that hard as some people said. In education student use only the style that the teacher gave them not a style they maybe invents and all their studies Is depend in memories the book, so there is no way for them to explore and the government should aware of that problem that education have and build them their own work shop, so the can put the theory in process. Another problem is that some local have no house they just have to rent it. Instead of building buildings that people from outside just see and buy it they should provide houses for locals. As I said before it is good for the county and not the people

Which is better UAE in the past or in future?

UAE is one of the richest countries in the world and all that because of the oil. Some people think life before oil in UAE was better and some people think the opposite. In this essay I am going to discuss whether life in UAE is better now then in the past.
Some people think that life before oil was better. The first reason is that life was much cheaper. For example in the past 12 eggs was worth 1 dirham, but today it is worth 16 dirham. Another reason is that life needs were simple. For example nowadays you need car to go to your work and a telephone to communicate with other people. However in the past if you wanted to get to your work you could ride a donkey or to take a walk. Yet another reason is that life before oil was much healthier. There were not that many cars, factories or buildings, so there was no pollution.
Some peoplethink life is much better after the oil. The first reason is that without the oil most people would be uneducated. For example, our college spends at least 1 million a year. This I think was the budget for whole UAE before oil. Another reason is that without oil the world would not recognize the UAE. For example Dubai build the tallest tower in the world and Guinness book of world record mention that in their books and people read Guinness book of world record mention all over the world, so we will be recognized. Yet another is that without oil UAE will be just a desert not like today . Nowadays every month or two there is a building, a malls or a park and all that because of the oil.
In conclusion, I think life after oil is much better because it make us explore every thing that happened in the world. Whether people like that or not without oil we are nothing.

Task 7

As most people know Global Warming is one of the issues that we faced these days .However many factors are helping to raise the Global Warming. One of these factors I discover while I was searching for appropriate topic for may task 7 in 174 and this factor is forest fires. Sciences said that one third of the carbon dioxide is coming from burning forest (Jacobson). And also Data gathered by aircraft flying over northern Alaska and the Arctic Ocean in April 2008 hint that much of the haze that blankets the region in spring, long thought to be associated with industrial emissions, in fact results from forest fires and agricultural burning in Asia (Perkins). In this essay is I will talk about the reasons, effects of forests fires in the country which produce it and some solutions of the problem.

There are many reasons why people start to burn forest. The first reason is that some countries are depending on tourism. For example if city like Dubai had a forest and they need space, it is easy to them to burn it than cut trees one by one because they need space to build a mall for example. The Second reason is that burning forest help to make the soil better for building buildings. For example burning destroys the dead leaves and rotting wood (http://islands.unep.ch/), so there is no need to worries if the are some woods or roots that could cancel the project you want to build.

There are many effects of forest fires. The first effect is the impact on the economy of the country that burns the forest. For example if a country burns a forest and that forest was near an airport they must shut the airport because the pilot can’t land the plane if there are some smokes from the forest, so they well lose money for at least three days. Another effect is on health. In the Physiological impacts caused by the smoke from forest fires include heart and lung conditions, carcinogenesis, premature death, suppressed immunity, and physical and cognitive impairments (www.forestencyclopedia.net).

Although there are reasons and effects there are also solutions. The first solution is to put a specific laws that to band the burn forest if not necessary. For example countries like Tasmanian are burning forest to make a space so they can build new houses, so this is a necessary reason to burn forests. Another solution is to brings together local knowledge, policy perspectives and science to help tropical forest margin stakeholders understand the tradeoffs between conservation and development goals (www.worldagroforestry.org).

In conclusion, we must dig harder and harder in the forest burning issue before the situation get worse and I hope that some day we would not have to burn any forest because the forest is like a protection for us from the pollution that we faced.

Task 6

As all people know our planet is suffering from one problem which is pollution. Pollutions cause by human and they are trying to fix the damage that they cause by building cities that don’t produce CO2. These cities called Cool Cities. In this essay I am talk about some of the problems of these cities.
The first reason is that the cool cities cost a lot because they are using the solar energy and this kind of energy is much higher than the fuel power (Gregor). And the cost problem would be impossible for the poor countries .For example the cost of Masdar which is build in Dubai is around 22 billion(Cheung).

The second reason is that the population is getting bigger in every second. For example take around 50 thousand people as I saw in YouTube, so as you can see the word population will keep increasing and the cool cities can’t hold all the people around the world, so it is a useless case to build cool cities.
The third reason it is nearly impossible to change the human habit .For example if a man used to drive his car to go to work and when he return he open his AC and went to sleep. How could this man live in cool city where there is no car and no AC, so that why I said it is nearly impossible to change the human habit or routines.

In my opinion living in cool cities is impossible because I can’t change my life style, but maybe some day that I must live in it, so at that time every thing will be possible.

Task 5

The Carbon Footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide and green houses which is produce by the human activists that they do every day. In this essay I am going to compare between my results and four of my friends results which we got them by using two website(http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/) and (http://www.heroesoftheuae.ae/).

First I am going to write about my results. The first web sits they asked many questions and they were very organizing that why I got 1.98 (WWF). I think the first web sit gave me much better and more accurate results than the second one may be because there were many questions. The second web site was much easier to understand and I got 0.8 (Heroes). There is a huge difference between the two web sits my average was 1.39. It seems that I am one of the rescuers of the earth.

Now I am going to compare between my results and my colleges results. There was a huge difference between us. The one which was near to me is Salem Al Hamadi with 2.21. The second one which was near to me is Abdu Azezz Al Mazroie and it got 2.54. One of my friends who surprise me was Ali Al marzoqi which approximately was more than half my result. Ali result was 3.32.

Although many people say sooner or later the pollution will happen ,I say to them despite talking how about to start doing some thing that will help our children to start an unpolluted life and use some of the power that not have an effect on them ,so how about we start now.

Task 4

An Inconvenient Truth is one of the most unforgettable movies, because he talked about one of the most dangerous problems that we face and it is the globe warming. The presenter was Al Gore in 2006. In this essay I am going to write about the positives and negative reviews of the movies.

First I will write about the positives reviews. The first one said that he was present it as story of life for someone .Although there were many chart and bars, Al Gore seems very relaxed and comfortable that he was laugh to his own wonky image. Also he give his audience a lot of facts and incidents like dangerous heat waves, increased flood…….etc(Macdonald).

And there were some negative reviews. First of all this was a promotion movie for Al Gore. First he talked about his life. And the death of his sister which died for lung cancer this incident has no connection with the Global warming issue. He also shows you that he is using an Apple laptop to promote the Apple company(Hall).

In my opinion Inconvenient Truth is one of the most successful documentary movies of all times. Despite all that talking that he want to promote him self, I think he did a great job. As you can see from the movie he gives a lot of facts so we can what is the dangerous of the Global Warming .He was so comfort and relaxed. He was also organize when he explain it. If the movie was not succeful as some people said then why Al Gore get an Oscar and a Noble Prize think of that.
